The VIP System was developed specifically for the China release of Guild Wars 2. The system allows players to earn points by completing a variety of tasks within the game which in turn earns them a higher rank and special rewards. The rank would then be visible to all other players as a sort of badge of honor, incentivizing other players to attempt to progress their own rank. The interface needed to create a sense of excitement around progressing through the ranks and emphasize the material worth of each rank. By displaying the individual ranks as badges within a grid, each rank took on a sort of “collectable” feel and the player’s sense of accomplishment grew as each of the badges became illuminated.
